Notion MCP Setup Helper

Notion runs an official MCP server at mcp.notion.com. Pick the AI app you use — get the exact command or config file and the steps to sign in. Your workspace permissions stay as they are.

1Your AI app

Good to knowThe AI sees only what your Notion account can see. On Enterprise plans an admin may need to approve the app first.

2Setup for Claude Code

Terminal · bash
claude mcp add --transport http notion https://mcp.notion.com/mcp
  1. Run the command in your terminal.
  2. Start Claude Code and type /mcp.
  3. Pick notion and approve access in the Notion window that opens (OAuth).

What you can ask once it’s connected

  1. 1“Find my meeting notes from last week and list the open action items.”
  2. 2“Create a page in the Projects database for the launch, with a checklist.”
  3. 3“Summarize everything in the Research wiki about pricing.”

The full picture — hosted vs self-hosted, what agents can and can’t do, security — is in our Notion MCP guide. Using Claude Code daily? See Claude Code + Notion MCP.

FAQ

What is the Notion MCP server URL?

https://mcp.notion.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP). Older clients can use https://mcp.notion.com/sse; clients that only run local commands can use the bridge npx -y mcp-remote https://mcp.notion.com/mcp.

Do I need an API key or integration token?

No. The hosted Notion MCP signs you in with OAuth — you approve access in a Notion window. Tokens are only needed for the open-source self-hosted server, which Notion no longer actively maintains.

It connected, but the AI doesn’t see my pages

The AI acts with your Notion permissions. Check that you signed in to the right workspace, and on Enterprise plans ask an admin whether the app is approved for MCP.

Is this helper free? Does it see my data?

Free, no account. It only assembles text in your browser — it never touches your Notion or your AI app.

MCP reads pages. IVGraph shows how they connect

See every page, backlink and relation of your workspace as an interactive 3D graph. Free up to 500 nodes.
